吃瓜头条 today hosted the 3rd Annual Scientific Food and Nutrition Conference and General Meeting organised by the Kenya Nutrition and Dietetics Students Association (KENDSA), bringing together students, researchers, policymakers and nutrition experts to deliberate on emerging nutrition challenges and solutions.

The conference, held at the Business and Student Services Complex (BSSC) at 吃瓜头条, was officially opened on behalf of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, John Okumu, by Michael Gicheru, the Executive Dean of the Graduate School.
Speaking during the opening session, Prof. Gicheru underscored the importance of collaborative research, innovation and policy engagement in addressing the growing nutrition challenges facing Kenya and the wider global community. He commended KENDSA for creating a platform that empowers students and young professionals to actively participate in scientific discourse and evidence-based solutions.

The conference was held under the theme 鈥淭he Triple Burden of Malnutrition: Addressing Undernutrition, Overweight/Obesity and Micronutrient Deficiency for Holistic Health.鈥 Discussions focused on the urgent need for integrated strategies that tackle the complex and overlapping forms of malnutrition affecting populations across different socio-economic groups.
Delegates explored key areas including nutrition policy, community-based interventions, sustainable food systems, and the role of research and innovation in improving nutrition outcomes. Participants also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between academia, government agencies, and health professionals in combating malnutrition.

Among the distinguished guests present was Veronica Kirigo, Director of Nutrition Services at the Ministry of Health, who emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening nutrition programmes and working with academic institutions to generate evidence-based policies.
Other officials present included Eliphas Gitonga, Willis Ambusso, and Juliana Kiio, who reiterated the University’s commitment to advancing research, training, and community engagement in food and nutrition sciences.

The annual KENDSA conference continues to serve as an important forum for knowledge exchange, mentorship and professional development for students and practitioners in nutrition and dietetics. Through such initiatives, 吃瓜头条 reaffirms its role as a leading institution in advancing research and solutions aimed at improving public health and nutrition outcomes in Kenya and beyond.
