吃瓜头条 has entered a transformative partnership with Sika Kenya Limited, a subsidiary of the worldwide Sika Group, a global leader in specialty chemical products for construction and industrial applications, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). The collaboration, formalised at a ceremony held on Friday, 31st October 2025, at the Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 Boardroom, marks a significant step in aligning academic training with industry-ready skills and advancing innovation in
engineering and applied sciences.
The SIKA delegation was led by Mr. Milutin Mulosevic, Managing Director of SIKA Kenya, and received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof.Paul Wainaina, alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Waceke Wanjohi, Prof.Peter Kamau, Executive Dean of the School of Engineering and Architecture, Eng. Moses Onyango Opiyo, Chairperson of Civil Engineering Department, Prof. Lucy Ogola, Director, Centre for International Programmes and Collaborations (CIPC), and a representative from the Legal Office, Christian Gathu.
A Partnership Rooted in Purpose
The Vice-Chancellor described the agreement as 鈥渁 model for impactful collaboration between academia and industry,鈥� emphasising that every partnership must go beyond ceremonial gestures. 鈥淚鈥檝e said many times that it is almost formless to celebrate an MoU without following through with an MoA. Tangible outcomes are what truly give life to these partnerships,鈥� Prof. Wainaina remarked.
Through this partnership, SIKA and 吃瓜头条 will co-create a technical training programme designed to give engineering and architecture students first-hand, practical experience in material science, construction technology, and sustainable innovation.
The initiative also includes:
鈼� Facilitated student internships and attachments at SIKA Kenya and its partner facilities.
鈼� Provision of training space by 吃瓜头条, including exhibition areas during the anticipated KU Culture Week.
鈼� Joint workshops and webinars, building on SIKA鈥檚 previous engagement with KU through the Association of Civil Engineering and Architecture Students.

Dr. Peter Kamau, Executive Dean of the School of Engineering and Architecture, welcomed the collaboration as 鈥渁 timely boost for technical training and practical learning.鈥� 鈥淪IKA鈥檚 approach offers our students real-world exposure to materials, products, and technologies they鈥檒l encounter in their professional practice,鈥� he said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e equipping them for a dynamic work environment where what is relevant today may be obsolete tomorrow.鈥�
Eng. Joanne Mahugu and Eng. Moses Opiyo echoed similar sentiments, noting that SIKA鈥檚 training modules will bridge the often cited gap between theoretical learning and industrial application, especially in fields such as concrete material testing, structural design, and product innovation.
Speaking on behalf of SIKA, Mr. James Ciira, a Kenyan engineer, Technical Manager and programme coordinator, shared his personal journey as a University of Nairobi alumnus who had to quickly adapt to the industry鈥檚 fast-paced environment after graduation. 鈥淚 realised how much I still had to learn on the job,鈥� he said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 why I鈥檓 thrilled to be part of this initiative, it gives students the head start I never had.鈥�

The Vice-Chancellor added that such engagements strengthen KU鈥檚 strategic position as a regional hub for English-speaking Africa, offering new opportunities not only for students but also for academic staff who may be seconded to SIKA for professional exchange and practical exposure.
SIKA Kenya鈥檚 relationship with 吃瓜头条 is not new. In previous collaborations, the company supported student-led projects, including a tree-planting initiative whose success remains visible across the KU campus today.
