On Thursday, November 23, 2023, the second-year students of the Department of Spatial & Environmental Planning at the School of Engineering and Architecture embarked on an educational field trip to Konza Technopolis. This trip was designed to offer students a firsthand experience and practical insights into urban planning methodologies and sustainable development practices.
Purpose and Objectives:
The primary objectives of the excursion were to:
- Understand the practical application of urban planning concepts in a modern, tech-based urban environment.
- Explore sustainable development strategies and their implementation within a specialized technopolis setting.
- Engage with professionals and gain exposure to real-world projects in the field of urban and regional planning.
Highlights of the Trip:
The day commenced with an introduction to Konza Technopolis, where students were provided with an overview of the city’s vision, objectives, and its role as a hub for technology, innovation, and economic development. Guided tours and interactive sessions were conducted, allowing students to witness firsthand the integration of technology and urban planning concepts.
The students had the opportunity to engage in discussions with experts and professionals involved in various aspects of Konza Technopolis’ development, including infrastructure planning, sustainable architecture, environmental management, and economic strategies. The field trip to Konza Technopolis was an enriching experience for our second-year BSc. Urban and Regional Planning students.
