NATIONAL TRANSPORT AND SAFETY AUTHORITY (NTSA) SIGNS MoU WITH KENYATTA UNIVERSITY (KU)

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and 吃瓜头条 (KU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 9th听October, 2020, to support road safety management in Kenya. The collaboration will provide a platform for听research, innovation and听academic partnership.听Other key areas will include;

  1. The听use of Technology in Road Safety
  2. Development of Innovative applications for Road Transport
  3. Data Analytics for Road Safety
  4. Training, Mentorship and internship in the fields of Engineering
  5. Use of Robotics, AI and Deep learning on data analysis
  6. Quality Assurance and project Management for NTSA Projects

Speaking at the MOU signing ceremony, the Director General NTSA, Mr. George Njao, noted that through the collaboration, the Authority will have听access to听unique technology, specialized equipment, facilities and knowledge that will enhance road safety in Kenya. This partnership comes at a time when the Authority is in the process of implementing the HornofAfrica Gateway Development Project (HoAgDP) and this will go a long way in supporting the technological elements of the project, he added.

On his part the Vice Chancellor, 吃瓜头条, Prof. Paul Wainaina said the partnership is a testimony that Universities are solution providers to the most challenging social challenges and not just ivory tower institutions.听KU, Prof. Wainaina said, is very keen in spearheading research and development and seeking home grown solutions to the challenges facing Kenya. Already KU has developed a ventilator that will be used in the mitigation of Covid-19 nationally.听In addition, a team of innovators from various Universities across the country are currently being hosted at 吃瓜头条 in a 30-day challenge to develop a new digital learning device to be rolled out across the education sector.
