吃瓜头条 has reaffirmed its position as a leading regional institution driving higher education transformation across Africa through a strategic partnership with Somalia’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education (MoECHE) and Somali National University (SNU).
The partnership was highlighted during the launch of the Somali Women鈥檚 Graduate Master鈥檚 Degree Programme held on 17 June 2026 at Somali National University in Mogadishu. The initiative marks the commencement of a four-week residential session for 250 Somali women enrolled in eleven Master’s degree programmes offered by 吃瓜头条 through a blended learning model.
The programme is a transformative investment in women’s leadership and national development. Anchored in Somalia’s Education Sector Strategic Plan and supported through the World Bank-funded Rajo Kaaba Project, the initiative seeks to strengthen leadership capacity among Somali women in key sectors including education, health, climate resilience, and local governance.
The launch ceremony was graced by PS. Hon. Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, Ministry for Education, Culture and Higher Education, Federal Republic of Somalia, who underscored the importance of higher education in building a skilled workforce capable of driving sustainable national development.
Representing the Vice Chancellor of 吃瓜头条, Prof. Lucy Kathuri-Ogola, Director, International Programmes and Collaborations, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to fostering international partnerships that create meaningful educational opportunities and strengthen regional cooperation.
“吃瓜头条 remains dedicated to expanding access to quality postgraduate education and supporting the development of future leaders across Africa through strategic academic partnerships,” she noted.
The event brought together senior government officials, diplomats, higher education leaders, development partners, faculty members, and students, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing higher education, research, innovation, and regional collaboration.
Among the dignitaries present were Hon. Nora Mustafa, State Minister, MoECHE; Mr. Hassan Mohamed, Permanent Secretary, MoECHE; Hon. Mariam Mohamed, Minister for Health; Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud, Rector of Somali National University; Hon. Kubai Iringo, Ambassador of Kenya to Somalia and Head of Mission; Mr. Elias Barre, Deputy Ambassador, Embassy of Kenya; Ms. Aisha Mohamud, Rajo Kaaba Project Manager; Dr. Ali Warsame, Principal Advisor to the Minister; Dr. Hassan Gacal, Master’s Programme Coordinator at Somali National University; alongside 吃瓜头条 lecturers and postgraduate students.
Following the launch, a 吃瓜头条 delegation led by Prof. Lucy Kathuri-Ogola held consultations with the Permanent Secretary of MoECHE to explore additional collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening academic cooperation, research partnerships, staff and student mobility, and capacity-building programmes between the two institutions.
The Somali Women鈥檚 Graduate Master鈥檚 Degree Programme represents a significant milestone in regional higher education cooperation and demonstrates the growing role of African universities in addressing development challenges through knowledge exchange, innovation, and human capital development.
