Inside KU鈥檚 Cezeri T陌KA Laboratory

In a landmark boost to Kenya鈥檚 innovation landscape, 吃瓜头条 has unveiled the Cezeri T陌KA Laboratory, a state-of-the-art software and design facility set to transform ideas into real-world solutions. Donated by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (T陌KA) and named after visionary inventor Ismail al-Jazari, the lab bridges the gap between theory and practice, empowering students with cutting-edge tools, industry-ready skills, and a platform to pioneer the technologies of tomorrow.

During his visit to the facility, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Paul Wainaina praised the lab鈥檚 potential to revolutionise the University鈥檚 approach to science, technology, and innovation. He emphasised the importance of leveraging such resources to not only equip students with hands-on skills but also to raise the visibility of groundbreaking work emerging from the institution.

The Cezeri Lab is more than a collection of computers, it is a hub where imagination meets execution. Equipped with cutting-edge tools, it empowers students to move from conceptual designs to finished products with precision and efficiency. Its arsenal includes rigid 3D printers, Creality solid desk filament machines, chemical-based resin printers, and laser cutters, offering professional-grade capabilities for prototyping and manufacturing.

Here, students are encouraged to think beyond traditional boundaries. They can explore automation, engineering, robotics, and design in ways that complement classroom learning. One standout project developed within the lab involved automating the process of serving tea, a creative competition that demonstrated both technical skill and innovative thinking. Robots designed by students have also been showcased, underscoring the facility鈥檚 role as a launchpad for invention.

Prof. Wainaina expressed his desire for the Cezeri Lab to gain greater exposure, suggesting that the next graduation ceremony feature a live demonstration of its capabilities. Such displays, he noted, would highlight the University鈥檚 commitment to nurturing creativity and technical expertise to a wider audience.

The lab has already begun shaping professional pathways. Six students have secured internships through programs linked to the facility, gaining valuable experience in design, manufacturing, and automation, equipping them to meet industry demands with confidence and competence.

Research is another cornerstone of the lab鈥檚 mission. Current projects include unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that integrate engineering, design, and photography, innovations with potential applications ranging from environmental monitoring to creative media production.

To ensure all users can maximise the lab鈥檚 potential, a two-week training programme was conducted, equipping students with essential skills in software use, fabrication, and system integration. The University is also working on securing additional licensing to expand the scope of training and operations, ensuring more learners can benefit from the facility鈥檚 advanced technology.

The establishment of the Cezeri Lab is a testament to the power of global partnerships. Through T陌KA鈥檚 support and 吃瓜头条鈥檚 dedication, the facility is bridging the gap between theory and practice, preparing students to lead in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
