Dr. Hashim outlined the NST course structure, which spans undergraduate to doctoral levels:
- At the聽undergraduate level, students will be introduced to foundational and advanced concepts in nuclear science, engineering applications, nuclear safety, and nuclear law, an increasingly important area as Kenya anticipates hosting nuclear infrastructure.
- At the聽postgraduate level, the curriculum is research-intensive:
Level 1: Core coursework in advanced nuclear sciences.
Level 2: Proposal formulation and defence, supervised research, reporting, and dissemination, culminating in thesis submission and examination.
The curriculum blends existing and newly developed courses tailored to Kenya鈥檚聽Vision 2030聽and economic transformation agenda. Training sessions previously conducted in October 2023 and May 2024 by聽Peter Keter, Director General of the聽Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KNRA), laid a strong foundation for what is envisioned as聽East Africa鈥檚 first comprehensive academic nuclear science ecosystem.
