Justification/Rationale
The programme seeks to provide practical and professional expertise needed for the learning of appropriate scientific principles and practices of agriculture. Drylands are fragile ecosystems and susceptible to climate change challenges. Crop and livestock productivity in the dry lands is limited by poor moisture availability as well as land degradation challenge. The increased demand for food and sustainable management of dryland resources calls for appropriate skills. The Master of Science degree in Dryland Agriculture will equip the students with skills required for management of soil, plant, water and animals resources to build resilience for the dryland communities. These resources are important components in food production and poverty alleviation. The trained manpower is expected to act as catalyst for enhancing the agriculture productivity and proper management of agriculture and environment for sustainable development. It will also help in addressing the Kenyan Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Entry Requirements
The common regulations for admission into the Masters Degrees in ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ shall apply.
Mode and structure of delivery
The Master’s programme will be through face to face, virtual and open learning, and blended learning. Blended learning will be at least 40%.
Programme duration
The program will take a minimum of 18 months.
In the first year of study, the students will be required to take a total of 12 units.
In the second year of study, the students will carry out research and will be evaluated through proposal write-up and presentation, submit a thesis for examination, defense, and publication of at least one manuscript in a peer-reviewed journal
