The MSc. in Agricultural Economics aims at equipping students with skills and knowledge essential for transforming the currently under developed food and agribusiness sectors and rural economies to perform well in an environmentally sustainable fashion. The underlying premise of this programme is that the highly trained professionals will be in a position to address the challenges posed by the dynamic changes experienced in the global and local economies, technology and marketing.
Objectives
The main objective of this programme is to produce and equip professionals with knowledge and skills essential for transforming and confronting the challenges in the agro-food sectors and rural economies. The specific objectives are to:
a) Produce graduates who can apply macro- and micro-economic theories to problems of agriculture, rural development and the environment.
b) Produce graduates with skills, knowledge and tools on the practical uses of agricultural economics in research objective decision making and management.
c) Equip students with the proper skills necessary for tackling complex issues and challenges of agricultural and rural development in their immediate environment, at the country level as well as the regional and global levels.
d) Provide an opportunity for students to explore emerging issues and challenges for research and further training by exposing them to front-line challenges in agricultural and rural development.
e) Prepare students for further training.

Admissions Requirements
a) The common regulations for admission into the Masters degrees in the school of Agriculture shall apply:
b) Applicants into the program should have First-class or second class honours (Upper Division) degree from a recognized University in agricultural economics, agribusiness or related courses such as general agricultural sciences, economics and social science, holders of a second class honours (Lower Division) degrees and those in mid-career in the above mentioned areas with evidence of at least two years relevant working experience.
