Introduction Records management falls under the discipline of information science, a field that deals with information management. Records management however specifically focuses on the creation, storage, access and management of the records that emanate from daily transactions of an institution. These activities call for professionals trained in the area of records management. There is therefore, an increased demand for records managers in the job market, both nationally and internationally. The degree in Records management and information technology gives students the requisite skills and competencies in information, records, and knowledge management, information and communication technologies, and records management systems.

Justification / Rationale Every organization produces records in its daily operations. Records management ensures that these records are properly stored, accessed and managed in accordance with any legal requirements and regulations. For organizations to ensure that their records with historical, fiscal, and legal value are accurately identified and preserved, proper records management activities and systems need to be put in place.
