BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN FASHION DESIGN AND MARKETING

Introduction

The Fashion Design and Marketing Department was established to provide high quality training in programmes related to Fashion Design and Marketing. This programme aims to produce competent, creative, innovative research-oriented designers听who are sensitive and responsive to societal needs and the right of every person to knowledge.听The Department, has a qualified and committed team of lecturers comprising 2 Senior Lecturers and 6 Lecturers..听We offer Fashion Design and Marketing (FDM) at:

  • BSc, in Fashion Design and Marketing
  • MSc in Fashion Design and Marketing
  • PhD in Fashion Design and Marketing

 

Programme Objectives

The learning outcomes or goals for the programme include:

  • Provide students with sound theoretical knowledge and practical skills to enable them think creatively and find solutions to fashion design and marketing challenges.
  • Train students to apply innovative and creative skills in the development of fashion and textile products.
  • Equip students with knowledge and skills to apply technology in designing, pattern making and production of fashion related products.
  • Develop students鈥 skills and competencies that enhance professionalism and ethical practice in the fashion industry.
  • Develop students鈥 capabilities in leadership and entrepreneurial skills in the management of fashion and textile industry.
  • Equip students with knowledge and skills in research to explore topical issues in the fashion industry.

Rationale

Recent developments in the fashion and textile industry have created opportunities and challenges that need to be addressed through highly trained human resources.听 These include changing technology, increased investment opportunities, market dynamics, highly informed consumers and stiff competition for high quality fashion and textile products brought about by globalization of the world economy. The Fashion Design and Marketing department aims at preparing students to participate fully in industrial development and become key players in the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Vision 2030.

Admissions Requirements

Candidates shall be eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design and Marketing in the following categories:

KCSE Candidates

For admission into the Bachelor of Science (Fashion design and Marketing) program a student must have sat and passed his/her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with mean of Grade C+ (plus). Additionally, have passed and attained a minimum of Grade C+ (plus) in at least ONE of the following subjects in Art and Design or Home Science or any one Science subject.

 

Diploma Holders

Those with a mean grade of C- and above at KCSE or equivalent and a Diploma of at least credit pass in Fashion Design or Clothing Technology/Art and Design/Interior Design/Textile Technology from recognized institutions will be considered.

Mode & Structure of Delivery

The program will be offered through regular mode of study for BSc., Master and PhD programmes. The mode of delivery of the program is face to face and blended learning through lectures, internships and industrial attachment. 听The Masters Programme can be undertaken by project or thesis modes. PhD is by Thesis. No part time mode of study is offered.

Programme Duration

For the BSc Programme students take 4 years. Masters in Fashion Design is a 2-year Programme. PhD programme is a 3-year Programme.

 

Curriculum Highlights

  • BSc in Fashion Design and Marketing undertake Practicum in 3rd听year and Internship in their 4th听year of study.
  • Masters in Fashion Design and Marketing can be undertaken by Thesis or Project.
  • D. in Fashion Design and Marketing is by Thesis.
