Bachelor of Science (Agribusiness Management)

Agriculture faces numerous challenges in a rapidly changing business environment; rapid pace of technological change, globalization, competitive environment and changing role of Government. These challenges have placed unparalleled demands on the capabilities of agribusiness managers. The Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management and Trade (BSc. ABMT) is designed to train students to be excellent managers, leaders and entrepreneurs in agribusiness.
The programme is specifically designed to prepare students for careers in agricultural management, food, agribusiness, and trade, rural and allied sectors of the economy. The programme is unique as it is firmly rooted in a management culture and proficiency as opposed to either technical or economic鈥揵ased backgrounds and cultures, present in other programmes.

Rationale
The programme seeks to provide practical and professional expertise needed for successful management of agribusinesses. The programme aims at developing competent professional managers for agriculture, food, rural and allied sectors. The programme caters for the needs of enterprises serving these sectors, both domestic and international.

Objectives
a) To equip students with requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes for managerial decision-making and implementation in the unique context of agri and food enterprises.
b) To empower students to be effective change agents in the agri- enterprise sector.
c) To prepare students for managerial and entrepreneurial careers in the agricultural sector and allied areas and to eventually to contribute to the dynamic role of the agricultural sector to economic development.

Admissions Requirements
i) In addition to meeting the University entrance requirements of overall C+ at KCSE or equivalent, candidates for admission to the B. Sc. Agribusiness Management and Trade programme are required to have obtained a minimum of C+ in Mathematics and in two of the following combinations: Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture or Geography, and Economics or Business Studies and Physical Science.
ii) Grade C in KCSE or its equivalent and two-year (minimum) Diploma with a credit in Agriculture, commerce, Accounting, Economics, farm management, Agribusiness or any other 聽discipline from an Institution recognized by 吃瓜头条 Senate.
