Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBchB)

Programmes

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Degree Program (MBchB) is a full time program. It takes six academic years of three semesters each. The Human Anatomy takes one full year. Human Anatomy program is a core course for those taking MBChB degree and must be successfully completed by the student before proceeding to clinical courses. A unit shall be defined as 35 contact hours.
A course in Human Anatomy is designated as one or more units of study which lasts 700 hours of study to complete. Duration of course is one academic year

EXAMINATIONS REGULATIONS

  • The University and School Examination Regulation shall apply
  • The assessment of students鈥 performance on the course, are made up as continuous assessment tests, which comprise practicals, orals, assignments, written tests and any other mode prescribed by the School.
  • There shall be end of year final examinations marked out of100%: However, for MBchB examinations they will not be graded as A, B, C there will only be graded as 鈥淧ass鈥 or鈥 Fail鈥 i.e. they are not classified.
  • The pass mark for the course shall be 50%. A candidate who fails with 40% to 49% in the Human Anatomy courses offered in academic year shall sit for a supplementary examination in the courses.
  • A candidate who obtains a final mark of between 47% and 49% in a particular course may be compensated according to the provision for compensation as determined by the school.
  • Final marks for candidates passing supplementary examinations and for candidates passing after repeating a year on academic grounds shall be 50%.
  • o candidate will be allowed to repeat a course more than once.
  • Special Examination shall be allowed under specific reasons accepted to the Board of Examiners of the University.
  • A candidate who Scores less than 30% in any course taken will be discontinued.
  • A candidate who is a repeater and who fails a supplementary examination will be discontinued.
  • A candidate who fails a supplementary examinations after repeating a year of study shall be discontinued from the MBchB program.
