The Bachelor of Arts Programme
Introduction
This programme is designed to equip the student with knowledge in History, Archaeology, and Political Studies. It specifically equips the learner with theoretical knowledge of the major themes in history, archaeology, and politics .Special emphasis is put on the African context in addition to the rest of the world and other areas, and knowledge in scientific production through research and dissertation/project writing.
Objective of the Programme
The goal of this programme is聽to聽give聽students a wider聽knowledge of History, Archaeology, and聽Political聽Science in order to prepare聽them聽to be critical thinkers and good communicators who can solve societal challenges.
The rationale of the Programme:
The rationale for this programme is founded on the belief that historical, archaeological, and political forms of knowledge help the student to have a deeper understanding of human cultures through time and space, which is critical in understanding the world and fostering peaceful coexistence.
Admission Requirements for the Proposed Programme:
To be admitted into the BA programme the applicant is expected to have achieved the minimum聽university entry requirement of grade C+. Additionally, the applicant is required to have attained a minimum of C+ grade in any 3 of the following subjects: English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, History & Government, Geography, and Religious Studies. The student must also have attained the cluster points for BA set by KUCCPS. Alternatively, one can apply for a BA if they scored聽C聽(plain) at KCSE聽but followed it up with a Diploma (Passed with a Credit B and above) from 吃瓜头条 or any other recognized institution, or if they scored a Mean grade of C-(minus) at KCSE but have progressed from Certificate to Diploma at 吃瓜头条 or any other recognized institution.
Mode and Structure of Delivery:
The Bachelor of Arts Programme is designed to be delivered through blended and online learning methods depending on the mode of learning. The programme for full-time students is delivered through a blended methodology that involves face-to-face and online methods. For the Digital Learning Programme students, the course is delivered through the online mode.
Programme Duration:
The Bachelor of Arts programme is designed to last for four years. For the students admitted under the full-time programme, are expected to have two semesters in each academic year before proceeding for the long holidays, while the students under the Digital Learning Programme are supposed to have three trimesters in an academic year.
Curriculum highlights:
Students enrolled for this programme are expected to study introductory courses in History, Archaeology, and Political Studies during the first and the second year of study. In the third year of study, students can choose to either Major or Minor in any of the three sub-disciplines; History, Archaeology or Political Studies. Students who choose to be Majors are supposed to do three core units and at least one elective in each semester from the third year, while the Minors are supposed to do at least two core units and one elective in each semester from the third year of study. The BA Majors are also required to undertake the research component and to write a dissertation.
