RATIONALE
The phenomenon of globalization and other complex social issues are increasingly creating the need in Kenya for more and better attention to human psychosocial problems. In attending to these problems there is need for counsellors with relevant training in the humanities and the social sciences and other areas of counseling psychology. This programme is intended to cater for this need.
OBJECTIVES
The goal of the Bachelor of Arts in Counselling psychology programme is to train highly qualified graduates who will promote scholarship, creativity and professionalism in offering counseling services to humanity for sustainable individual and, societal growth and development
MODE OF DELIVERY
Students admitted in the programme will study under the Full-Time Residential mode. The mode of delivery will be face to face learning.

DEGREE PATTERN
The summary of course offerings for the BA Counselling Psychology presented as follows: In first year, students will be expected to take five units from psychology, four units from other specified departments and four University common units. In second year, students will be expected to take eight units from psychology and four units from other specified departments. In third and fourth year, students will take twelve units from psychology department. A total of 45 units plus
4 common units will be used in the Degree Classification for the B.A. counseling Psychology
students.
MODE OF ASSESSMENT
For each unit offered there will be Final Examination (70%) and Continuous Assessment (30%). For APS 421 counselling practicum, students will be expected to proceed on practicum for at least three months after completion of their units. Assessment of students in this unit will be out of 100% following guidelines approved by the department. The final grading will be as follows:
70% and above (A); 60-69 (B); 50-59 (C); 40-49 (D); 0 – 39 (fail).
COURSE STRUCTURE
University Common Units as guided by the school. All courses in the programme. Counselling Practicum (APS 421) equivalent to 4 Units. Research project (APS 404). The unit will run through two semesters. While on practicum, students will be expected to attend a three hour weekly
School of Humanities and Social Sciences counseling supervision (APS 428). Students will be expected to undertake 15 hours of personal therapy before they proceed on practicum.
