Bachelor of Science (Industrial Chemistry with management) is an exciting undergraduate course that deals with the application of chemical knowledge and principles in the transformation of raw materials to valuable products. The training focuses mainly on the relevant concepts of physics, chemistry, and mathematics and how they apply to manufacturing of chemicals and materials in industry. The programme includes a management component through carefully selected units from the school of Business, Economics & Tourism to enhance employability of the graduates. The course is closely related to chemical processing, chemical engineering, industrial management, project management, plant management, operations management, etc. Students expect to learn chemical principles and relate them to manufacturing at lab scale and industrial scale. They also expect industry visits and apprenticeship/internship /attachment in industry for work environment experience and exposure for a period of not less than 14 weeks.Objectives of the Programme
i). 聽 聽To provide training in foundational chemistry involving inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer science, green chemistry, waste management, that is relevant to industry including but not limited to the polymer industry, biochemical industry, pharmaceuticals industries, and petrochemical industries.
ii). 聽 聽To bridge the gap between chemistry knowledge and its practical application to industrial processes.
iii). 聽 聽Inculcate the culture of entrepreneurship through the infused business and management units

Industrial chemists work to develop and optimize processes for the manufacture of products and that will increase sales and profits. The changing landscape of manufacturing technology requires adaptable and flexible scientists with knowledge and skills in the science behind products and processes. B.Sc. Industrial chemistry programme coupled with management helps provide the manpower.
Entry Requirements
a) 聽 聽KCSE mean grade of C+ (C-plus) or its equivalent, with at least C+ (C-plus) or equivalent in Chemistry, Mathematics and either Physics/Physical Science, Biology or Biological Sciences.
b) 聽 聽KCSE mean grade of C (C-plain) or equivalent and a Diploma of at least credit pass in the relevant field of study from a recognized institution.

Programme duration
The programme requires eight (8) semesters or four academic years of full-time study. In addition, students are required to undertake an industrial attachment for one semester.

Research project provides personalized training in literature review skills, research skills, data collection, analysis and interpretation, presentation skills as well as collaboration.
