B.Sc. (Analytical Chemistry with Management)

B.Sc. (Analytical Chemistry with Management) is an exciting undergraduate course that deals with the application of chemistry knowledge and principles in the analysis of raw materials and products of chemical nature to inform decision making in research, manufacturing, etc. The programme includes a management component through carefully selected units from the school of Business, Economics & Tourism to enhance employability of the graduates. Students expect to learn chemical principles and relate to chemical analysis, and quality management and assurance. They also expect industry visits and apprenticeship/internship/attachment in industry for work environment experience and exposure for a period of not less than 14 weeks.

Objectives of the Programme
1). 聽 聽To provide training in foundational chemistry including inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer science, biotechnology, green chemistry, that is relevant to industry including but not limited to the polymer industry, biochemical industry, pharmaceuticals industries, and petrochemical industries.
2). 聽 聽To bridge the gap between chemistry knowledge and its practical application to chemical analysis, method development and validation.
3). 聽 聽Have provide training in specialist analytical techniques and methodologies.
4). 聽 聽Provide hands-on experience the sampling techniques and sample preparation involving samples from a wide range of sources.
Rationale of the Programme
Analytical chemistry focuses on the identification and quantification of the chemical compounds that constitute raw materials and products of the chemical industry. It also involves the processing and communication of information about the composition and structure of matter. As the nature and matrices of products and raw materials for different manufacturing processes vary so do analytical protocols for identification and quantification. The course is designed to prepare chemical analysts that are adaptable to the changing demands due to the stringent environmental controls, materials and processes in industry.
